The Nap
While muddling through maybes and endless claptrap,
I tripped on a yawn and fell into a nap.
I wasn't invited; I didn't say “please.”
Sleep sent me pillows on a soft, sleepy breeze.
It tucked in my thoughts that were noisy and loud
And it folded my worries like wisps of a cloud.
My checklist: It tiptoed away down the hall.
My clocks just stopped ticking, forgot time at all.
I drifted past bushes and flowers and hay.
I sailed on a blanket that floated all day.
The sun winked goodnight though it wasn't quite through.
The stars all arrived and they brought the moon, too.
When I woke up later (Or sooner? Who knows?)
I found tiny snores still stuck under my nose.
So if you feel nervous or grumpy or snappy,
Fall into a nap, and you'll come back all happy.
